My heart is breaking. This is the hardest thing I've ever done. Hearing her cry while I sit outside the door counting down the minutes, I think I have cried as much as she has. I am trying the Ferber method which is a "cry it out" approach, in 5, 10 and 15 minute rotations. I have 5 minutes left before I can go in and sooth her, hoping that writing about it will make it go faster.
Sailor has become a full blown character. Her new favorite things... her jumpy, baby Einstein and Hannah. All three evoke huge smiles and the occasional giggle.
Oh my goodness, I think she's asleep! SUCCESS!!

Beaches, Bike Rides, Pumpkins and Tons of Giggles
The fact that it has almost been a month since I last posted is proof that new moms have no time! When Sailor was measured in weeks it was easier to grab a second to sit down and ponder motherhood, but now that she's a little character she wants to learn and see, and do! We've been trying hard to keep her entertained with lots of new activities, here are just a few from the last month...
My mommy has no time to blog because she spends her days dressing me in silly outfits and taking pictures.
We went to a pumpkin patch about an hour outside the city. After the corn maze and the hayride we picked out a few pumpkins and had a blast staging Sailor on some bales of hay. We were SUCH the new parents and loving every minute of it.
Mike was excited for us to come to meet his coworkers so we headed uptown and made the rounds on the trading floor. Sailor passed out hard, I don't think trading will be her path... but she was eyeing the Vogue building across the street.

We headed down to Kiawah, South Carolina for a wedding and what a perfect trip it turned out to be. Sailor was a champ on the plane and such a trooper the entire weekend. She had a couple of major firsts while there, her first bike ride and her first toe-dip in the ocean. We think her name is fitting, she seemed to love the ocean.

Time And Baby Flies
It has been weeks since I last posted... Sailor has kept me so busy! This little girl simply can't get enough of the world. She wants to go and do, and see everything she can. It feels like someone flipped a switch and now she's such a little person. Long gone is my infant that would sleep away the day.
In the last few weeks we've flown (just mommy and baby) to Michigan, Kentucky and home again. We've met every family member, been the guest of honor at two showers, and discovered a hundred new things to giggle at.
A quick snapshot of our adventures...

Within the last week or so Sailor has really begun to show interest in objects around her. She was fascinated by aunt mimi's necklace and reached out to grab it... again and again. She's smiling when she sees a toy she likes and gets excited when her pacifier is in view. But the sweetest of all is her love for her blankie. We actually have three blankies that we are rotating, hoping to always have a back up ready. She is suddenly calm when given one of the three and loves to have it by her face to snuggle. It's so fun to watch her get it, and it's so sweet to watch her fall in love with something.

Something New
Every day is a new adventure, a new milestone met. Sweet Sailor is easy to smile and the giggles are coming more often. She is showing great interest in certain toys and loves to be kissed (thank goodness because I do it constantly!) Today's big deal was her first real nap un-swaddled. Soon she'll no longer need to be wrapped up like a little burrito, and she'll be sleeping like a big girl. One more thing to say goodbye to on this all too quick journey.

Busy Busy
It was quite a week for this busy 10-week old. She attended (and rockd') baby yoga, participated in stroller boot camp, toured a construction site, had her first trip to Central Park and FAO Shwarz, and oh yeah... met with General McChrystal. She's been uptown, downtown, midtown and she did it all like a pro.
I am amazed at how good this little person is. Often my mommy guilt kicks in and I think we are doing too much. We'll be in the middle of something and I'll suddenly want to rush her home, swaddle her, and sing her to sleep. Then I will look at her and she's sound asleep, or gazing at the world with those big beautiful eyes, and I realize that she's doing better than I am. I am certain that this feeling only grows as a child gets older. I will always want to swoop her up and shield her from the world, and she will always want to explore it.

Hee Hee
There are simply no words to describe how good it felt to hear Sailor laugh for the first time. It happened the other day and didn't come when I was making a funny face, or shaking a toy for her attention, it came when I was changing her clothes. I thought for sure it was a fluke but almost every time since she's given me the cutest little chuckle I've ever heard. Oh what a sweet sound! Here is a tiny laugh...
